To whom it may concern:

While this is an unsolicited testimonial, it is, I believe, necessary to acknowledge the treatment that I received on February 9, 2010 from Dr. Brett Noorda and his Dental Excellence staff.

Having been diagnosed during a regular cleaning with an abscess, Dr. Noorda prescribed a root canal. My first thoughts were, “Brrr…” and “Damn!” but, since I was busy last weekend and couldn’t go to dental school, I deferred to his knowledge and I took comfort in the fact that he has been my dentist since 2004 and has never given me bad or incomplete advice.

The procedure started at 9:15 with his kind and capable assistant, Michelle. After some prep and an up-to-the-minute corroboration of the initial diagnosis, Dr. Noorda administered the anesthetic that was to keep me comfortable. He’s got a way of inserting the tip of the needle and pushing the anesthetic ahead of the point such that the tissue is numb before the needle proceeds deeper. A single little pinch. That was it for discomfort.

A couple of things set Dr. Noorda apart from practitioners I’ve had in the past; things that I appreciate:

(1) He talked to me. Told me exactly what he was seeing and how he was going to approach the problems. And problems there were. The tooth, the upper left bicuspid, had roots with canals not much bigger than a piano wire. To complicate matters, the canals were twisty; convoluted. Dr. Noorda, of course, had to ensure that the interior surfaces were completely smooth and clean.

(2) I have had no appreciable pain or discomfort since the anesthetic wore off. None. An hour after Dr. Noorda finished, I felt a slight throbbing in the tooth, but I had to concentrate on it to even be aware of it.

There’s a reason that my recovery from a long and invasive procedure; an insult to my body, was free from discomfort. It is this: throughout the morning, Michelle and Dr. Noorda treated my body with the utmost gentleness and respect. Since they worked slowly and tenderly, there was minimum trauma to the sensitive, nerve-rich tissue. Ergo, there was no post-op pain. It’s that simple.

I commend to you, Dr. Noorda and his staff: Pat at the front desk; Michelle, Dr. Noorda’s good third and fourth hands; and Marilyn, a supremely skilled, contentious and caring hygienist. Experienced and confident professionals all, they make a potentially unpleasant morning easily bearable.

Do I look forward to my next visit? No. I don’t like going to the dentist, but I don’t dread it either. I know that, every six months, it has to be done. I also know that I’ll receive comfortable and competent care, that I’ll be treated respectfully, and that there will be no post-procedure discomfort.

It may get better than that, but I don’t know how.

I dislike going to the dentist. I’m very sensitive to pain, and I also suffer from a neck issue which worsens under the stress I feel at a typical dental visit. When I heard about I.V. sedation therapy, I immediately was interested, and found it was an available option at the dental offices of Dr. Brett Noorda.

The I.V. sedation therapy was the perfect solution for me. I have no memory of the entire procedure, which included an extraction and a root canal. With no tension, I experienced none of the usual issues with my neck. I intend to use the I.V. sedation therapy for all future dental procedures other than cleaning and minor fillings. I see no reason to suffer through pain and anxiety when there is an excellent alternative.

Implant Testimonials

I was devastated when I learned I would need an implant after infection was found in the tooth roots of a crown in my mouth. I had heard about all the pain associated with one and was very apprehensive. When we had the consultation with Dr. Noorda, he was very clear about what the procedure would be. Each step along the way I expected to experience a great deal of pain (which I don’t handle well), but I was very pleased with slight discomfort and back to normal the next day. The implant procedure went very well, my gums healed nicely, and finally the day arrived for completion of the implant with the crown being placed on the implant. I was very satisfied with the fit of the crown on the implant, in fact it was the best of all my crown experiences. It is a lengthy procedure to get it done right, but I feel the wait was worth it.
